Prepare photos for upload: file size, pixels and format

Set an individual KB target, preserve useful detail and check the result before submitting your images.

Read the receiving site’s requirements first

File size, pixel dimensions and format are different requirements. A photo below 200 KB can still have the wrong dimensions or an unsupported format. Record each limit before editing.

Passport and ID-photo acceptance also depends on framing, background, recency and other official rules. This tool cannot certify compliance. Check the receiving authority’s current instructions.

Compress to an individual file-size target

Open Compress images, choose JPG, PNG or WebP files and set the target in KB. The output is JPG. You can process up to 15 files totaling 40 MB; large images also have a 24-megapixel limit.

For three photos with a 200 KB target, each successful output aims to stay under 200 KB. The target does not apply to the combined ZIP. If the receiving site requires individual JPG files, extract the ZIP before uploading.

  1. Select your photos and choose a target such as 200 KB.
  2. Open More options if you must keep the resolution or set a minimum width.
  3. Process the files, then inspect each output for legibility and dimensions.
  4. Save individual files or a ZIP before closing the page.

Resize only when needed

If both width and height are required, choose whether to add padding, crop the center or stretch. Padding preserves the entire picture; cropping can remove important edges. Stretching changes the aspect ratio.

Keeping resolution while compressing only allows quality changes. Some images cannot meet a small KB target under that constraint. The tool reports this instead of silently claiming success.

Check format and transparency

JPG does not support transparent backgrounds. When converting PNG or WebP to JPG, choose an appropriate background color. Renaming a file extension does not convert its image data.

HEIC is not supported directly. Export an iPhone photo as JPG first. Your originals are not changed and files are processed within the browser.
